IHS South Africa publishing business becomes independent, trades as Infixion Media

[Johannesburg, February 10 2010] The publishing business of IHS South Africa will henceforth trade as Infixion Media, following the purchase of the business from its U.S. parent company by local divisional executive Greg Hughes. The publishing business came into being 14 years ago, when IHS Inc. purchased the Communications Group (including National Publishing, Specifle, Pulse Publications and Graphix Publications), a long-standing leader in South African business-to-business publishing. IHS will continue to operate in South Africa through its IHS Global Insight and product lifecycle businesses.

With the purchase of the business, Infixion Media will return to being completely South-African owned. All the company's existing products will continue unaffected, though many will benefit from an accelerated new-media strategy in the short-term future, says Hughes.

"Becoming independent gives us the ability to make decisions that work best for the products we do. We’ve become accustomed to working to incredibly high standards, especially through IHS, where the business demanded unwavering attention to those standards," said Hughes. "We believe our products are up to that international standard. We’ve forged new relationships, like TechTarget [a range of information technology media products], and we’re starting to see revenue flowing from the online product range that complements each of our hard-copy journals. The future of those products is really exciting to look at. The product offering we have, no one else has. We have built a portfolio of fully integrated media. We’re not just about individual journals; now we’re providing tightly integrated websites, electronic newsletters, online catalogues, custom microsites for our clients, buyers’ guides, and more."

"The relationship with IHS has been really good for our business. They’ve guided us through the last 14 years, and we’ve learned a lot, especially in terms of our online business," Hughes said. "We have everything we need to take the business into our own hands, sustain it, and take it forward. It’s not going to be business as usual. It’s going to be business better than usual!"
