Although Infixion Media was formed as recently as 2009, some of its components boast a proud history stretching back as far as 1939 when the Business Blue-Book of South Africa was launched. This product remains today the leading provider of legislative information interpreted to have real meaning amongst business leaders in this country and ensure understanding of the latest legislation and its impact on companies in South Africa. In 2009 this publication was converted to a purely online product to meet the demands of its readers for a more up-to-date reference guide.
Specifile Division, established in 1956 offers a service aimed primarily at building industry professionals and is used by architects, quantity surveyors, consulting engineers, building and interior designers, property developers and import/export agents. Today the service comprises a mix of media from hard copy to digital, designed to promote the cost-effective marketing of building products and services to a broad spectrum of subscribers.
The Manufacturing and Engineering Division came into existence in 1968 with the launch of Factory Equipment and Materials (FEM) and now includes a range of highly successful catazines (advertorial product buyers' guides).
1974 saw the launch of the Review Publications Division which to this day produces the leading journals for the packaging; food and beverage; pharmaceutical and cosmetics; and household products manufacturing sectors. These products are complemented by The Buyer’s Guide online launched in 2009 containing a comprehensive listing of raw materials and ingredients as well as processing and packaging machinery for these industries. The inter-related iMix platform supports this division with the latest news and technological advancements on the market.
Modern Medicine, part of the Healthcare Division launched in 1976, is distributed to general practitioners in private practise to help doctors stay abreast of global clinical developments and is published in conjunction with Modern Pharmacy (launched 1994) aimed at pharmacists providing up-to-the-minute clinical reviews as well as practical information to help them run effective and profitable businesses.
In 1979 The Communications Group formed, as a holding company for National Publishing, Specifile & Pulse Publications. This business was, in turn, acquired by IHS (based in Denver, Colorado, USA) in 1996, and IHS South Africa was formed.
A host of publications was launched under IHS from 1996 to 2009 and, in addition to this, one of the most significant partnerships in terms of taking the company into the realm of online media, was concluded with TechTarget. TechTarget South Africa provides leading-edge information and news to South Africa’s top IT and business professionals.
In December 2009 Greg Hughes, divisional executive officer, IHS South Africa at that time, acquired 100% of the share capital in IHS South Africa publishing business and formed Infixion Media.
