Company History

Although Infixion Media was formed as recently as 2009, some of its components boast a proud history stretching back as far as 1959 with the Specifile Division, which offers a service aimed primarily at building industry professionals and is used by architects, quantity surveyors, consulting engineers, building and interior designers, property developers and import/export agents. Originally a hard copy service comprising binders filed in architectural offices, the service today is now offered online. Specifile is designed to promote the cost-effective marketing of building products and services to a broad spectrum of subscribers.

The Manufacturing and Engineering Division came into existence in 1968 with the launch of Factory Equipment and Materials (FEM) and now includes a range of highly successful catazines (advertorial product buyers' guides).

1974 saw the launch of the Review Publications Division which to this day produces the leading journals for the packaging; food and beverage; pharmaceutical and cosmetics; and household products manufacturing sectors. These products are complemented by The Buyer’s Guide launched in 2009 containing a comprehensive listing of raw materials and ingredients as well as processing and packaging machinery for these industries.

In 1979 The Communications Group formed, as a holding company for National Publishing, Specifile & Pulse Publications. This business was, in turn, acquired by IHS (based in Denver, Colorado, USA) in 1996, and IHS South Africa was formed.

In December 2009 Greg Hughes, divisional executive officer, IHS South Africa at that time, acquired 100% of the share capital in IHS South Africa publishing business and formed Infixion Media.
